Mission: Wedding Photography

August 12, 2017

Wedding Photography can be both challenging and highly rewarding & enjoyable. From my perspective, it provides me the opportunity to capture some gorgeous shots and get to know the story of the couple. People`s personal stories have always fascinated me. For some is it how one small coffee date turned out to be a long term relationship. That in turn was decided to be forged to a never ending togetherness through the vow of being each other through sickness and health, happiness and sadness.

If you are choosing to get into Wedding Photography and looking for some tips on what gears or equipment you may need, I hope this article helps you. This article will cover the equipment I use in Wedding and do not mean you have to use all the equipment to capture amazing shots. At the end of the day the most important and powerful gears you need to bring is your vision, techniques and ability to tell a story through images.

Here are the lists of gears I carry,

  • Nikon 610 – It is a full frame camera able to take some amazing shots.

  • Nikon D300s – It is not a full frame camera but still able to take some amazing shots. I have had this camera for a while and it never let me down. Always try to have a backup camera during the wedding. If you don`t have a backup camera like me, feel free to rent it or even borrow one from your friend. Stores like Camera Store and Vistek has some really good daily and weekend rates for renting camera gears. It is also a good to break in the Wedding Photography without investing a lot of money you may not have.

  • Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 E ED VR II Nikkor Zoom Lens – This is a gem of lens. I primarily use this lens throughout the day. This lets me take wide range of photos from a wide angle shot to a close-up. If I have to choose only lens, this will certainly be the one

·Nikon Nikkor 70-200mm F/2.8 G ED IF AF-S VR Autofocus Lens – This is an amazing zoom lens, which will help you get the shot, when you just can`t get close enough to the couples or subjects in time or you don`t want to ruin the moment

·Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D – This is an awesome portrait lens. It`s a must have for any photographer. It is super inexpensive and has the bokeh effect everyone likes
  • Memory Card, lots of it – Get as many as you can. There is no such this as having too many

  • Batteries – Always carry extra

·Yongnuo YN-560 II Speedlight – I have a few of them. They are really inexpensive and works with many camera brands. It`s nice to carry 3-4 flashes, as they are light and will help you light up the venue by putting them in different corners.

·YONGNUO YN560-TX Wireless Flash Controller and Commander  - This is a really useful tool to control one or a group of flashes. The controller allows you to only trigger the flashes you want and not all of them

  • Strobes – You can bring a strobe to the wedding as well. They usually have a lot of power and you can use one to light up the whole venue.

  • Flash stands – Try to get some light weight flash stands. They are easy to carry and portable.

  • Reflectors and diffusers

  • Camera bag – Make sure it sturdy and can carry all the essentials

Happy Shooting!!
